Request/Registration
Texas Examinations of Educator Standards (TExES)
TAR - Steps for Requesting to Test and Registering
Please read this entire section carefully.
You must have been admitted to teacher education before taking certification exams. Contact 825-3074 for information.
1. TAR
When you are ready to take a certification exam, you must notify
TAMUCC. This notification is accomplished via our electronic
request system called TAR which stands
for TExES Approval/Request System.
TAR does not operate during most holidays or Spring Break and TAR shuts down at noon on the day before the regular registration deadline to process all existing requests, so TAR deadlines occur earlier then ETS regular registration deadlines.
Submitting your request late will cause you to incur additional testing fees.
- Students wishing to take a content exam should be sure they have met all pre-requisites before requesting to test. Contact the content area program coordinator for information.
- Students wishing to take a Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities exam should be sure they have completed the PPR pre-test and analysis before submitting their request via TAR.
- All information must be typed accurately. Check each page before proceeding. Read all definitions carefully to be sure you are inputting the correct information.
- Submit your request one time only. You will immediately receive an email saying that your request is being processed and to monitor your email. Islander email address will be used for all students enrolled at TAMUCC.
- If you requested to test and were approved but did not test, your approval should still be available. Check the ETS website and if the test you wish to take shows, you may register without submitting another request to TAR.
Once your request has been approved, TAMUCC will upload your information to the Texas Education Agency's database and TAR will send an email to you.
Once your request has been approved and uploaded, you may proceed to Step #2.
- CAUTION: you may not set up accounts or register until you receive the email that states your information has been uploaded by TAMUCC.
2. Obtain a TEA ID#
Once your information has been uploaded by TAMUCC, you may set up your SBEC educator account and obtain your TEA ID# at www.sbec.state.tx.us.
If you already have an SBEC account, check/update your information.
3. Set up an ETS account using your TEA ID#
Visit www.texes.ets.org
to set up an account with ETS using your TEA ID#.
IMPORTANT NOTE: INFORMATION IN YOUR SBEC EDUCATOR ACCOUNT MUST
MATCH EXACTLY YOUR INFORMATION IN YOUR ETS ACCOUNT. IF THIS
INFORMATION DOES NOT MATCH, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO REGISTER.
4. Register to test
At the ETS website www.texes.ets.org
During the registration process, you will see the test(s) you have been approved to take, the dates of the test, the location of the test, and the time of the test. NOTE: NOT ALL TESTS ARE AVAILABLE DURING EACH TEST ADMINISTRATION. Likewise, if a site is full, it will not be visible. If no tests are listed, you have not been approved by TAMUCC to test and your information has not been uploaded to TEA. You must always submit any requests to test via TAR at http://tar.tamucc.edu Once your information is uploaded, your approved tests should show and you can register and remit payment at the ETS website..Mail in: down load the registration form from the ETS website. Fill out all information and mail in by the registration deadline
