Students working toward a Master’s Degree and Certification

Texas Examinations of Educator Standards (TExES)

Students in their certification program must meet all pre-requisites in order to be eligible to take state certification examinations. MAC students who have met all certification requirements do not have to meet prerequisites.

Students must be admitted into Teacher Education to be eligibile to take state certification exams.

EDCI 5306 & 5307 include a minimum of six hours of TExES preparation.

Students submit TExES requests electronically via TAR. TAR handles all content area approval requests via email.

Content Exam

Pre-Admission Content Tests (PACT)
Significant changes to Texas Administrative Code (TAC) §227.10 (a)(3)(C) were approved by the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) on October 10, 2008. The new rule, which went into effect on December 14, 2008, allows degreed individuals who have not been enrolled in an Educator Preparation Program (EPP) to take Pre-Admission Content Tests (PACT) to demonstrate content proficiency for possible admission into an EPP. This is currently an option at TAMUCC. Please visit the ETS website at www.texes.ets.org for more information.

Currently, once a student has been admitted into the Teacher Education program, s/he may test in their content area. Approval to test is required from the content area program coordinator, but this approval request is generated automatically via TAR.

Approval for the TExES Generalist content exam is granted by the State Testing Coordinator's office if the student is taking or has completed EDCI 5307 Classroom Management and the student and has been admitted into Teacher Education.

Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities (PPR) Exam

MAC students must take the PPR Pre-test and conduct an analysis of their score report to be eligible for the state PPR exam.

Eligibility for the PPR pre–test requires engagement in EDCI 5307 Classroom Management and the Student and admission to teacher education.

Students submit TExES requests electronically via TAR once the PPR pre-test and analysis has been completed.
